We also identified key messages for the wider design of digital musical instrument makers, performers and event organisers to improve practice around working with and for disabled musicians. The group gave interviews as to their perspectives and needs around networked music practices and this data was then analysed to look at how software design could be developed to make it more accessible. It advocates for the involvement of people with disabilities in the discussion of disabilities. Originally published in 1998, Charlton bases the name on the slogan 'Nothing about us, without us'. In accordance with the Nothing About Us Without Us (Charlton, 1998) principle I worked with a group of 15 professional musicians who are also disabled. 'A study of the global oppression of people with disabilities and the international movement that has recently emerged to resist it. Nothing About Us Without Us expresses the conviction of people with disabilities that they know what is best for them. Nothing About Us Without Us: Disability Oppression and Empowerment is a book written by James Charlton. It is a profound book (very deep) and at times difficult for sensitive people like me but it is a must read book. It really gives an insight to the history, psychosocial history of disabilities all around the world. The project takes a Universal Design approach to exploring the possibility of creating a software platform to facilitate a Networked Ensemble for Disabled musicians.
